To build this project I created a context and its evolution between now to the period where I situated my project, 2100.
#Research
I started this project by looking back to some research of my project in third year "lens on practice" then, thanks to STEEPLE cards, I started to explore the issues of global warming in 2021 and how some artistes are responding do them.
My research was very large and global at the beginning, as I said in the introduction, Global Warming is a large and complex subject. I was torn between working on breathing and pollution and working on vegetalisation.
I continue by creating a global timeline with STEEPLE cards. This timeline is focused on action made by humans on global warming.
I focused the first step of my research by looking at the human in action to represent or to fight global warming, I was hoping to find a topic to explore. I couldn't start my research on global warming because topics are too many..
Past --------------------------------------------------------------------------Now----------------------------------------------------------------------------Far
In the past, the human race has already had to adapt to extreme climatic episodes, notably to several climatic cooling episodes, between 1303 and 1860. "France will be driven into an alarming situation around 2080, in a context of international crisis difficult to anticipate" "The current IPCC predictions between 2080 and 2100, we will be crushed by heat waves".
"The planet is warming... How we're preparing for it." 12 January 2019. France Culture Forum.
"For 40 years we have been sounding the alarm."
"How to make mitigation and adaptation to global warming compatible."
This project allowed me to dig deeper and understand the climate problems we are facing and will continue to face in the coming years if we don't make radical changes in our industries and our ways of consuming.
The acceleration of our lives accelerates our consumption, but we do not take the time to adapt this consumption to sustainable and conscious consumption. During this project, I could quickly understand how my life habits could be bad without making me compete. Thanks to three encounters, Olivier, Pierre and Imanol, a biologist, an agriculturist and a fisherman, I understood that here in the Basque country one of the most important issues is the water resource. Indeed, we are surrounded by water, from our rivers and the ocean, and the climate of the Basque country is humid, with frequent rainfall. In spite of this more than present water, our water tables are soon dry. We will have to find another way to consume, recuperate and store water.
Pierre told me about his installation which contains 2 large water tanks allowing him to supply his whole estate and his animals.
Olivier explained to me the migration system of the species and the functioning of our water resources. Imanol also spoke to me about the migration of species and his fear of the disappearance of the local fishery.
During these discussions, I was able to understand how our community should be at the heart of these changes.
The choice of the speculative design is evidence to bring this climate reflection within the community. It allows me to question my role and practice as a designer in a community while creating participatory workshops with other community members.
After spending a lot of time reading and listening to scientific speculation about our climate, I felt the legitimate to shape my future context and its evolution.
My future is evolving between 2021 and 2100. I created a little video to adapt this timeline to my workshop audience.
The human is evolving through a space vegetalising step around 2050 and after and then he became aware of his need to adapt his water rituals.
2050
For my hearing, I have created 2 mood boards to represent the 2 atmospheres between the present and the far future. These mood boards are a plastic expression of the environments. I used collages, drawings and different textures to give the viewer as much detail as possible and took care not to use text. I wanted to have a broader approach and stimulation of the viewer's imagination. By using only colours and visual elements, my audience can then choose the words and adjectives they wish to use for these two illustrations..
